The Little Things in Life

So we have been running Citrix for a while at MBC. For those of you who don’t know what Citrix is it bascially allows us to run all of our applications (i.e. Microsoft Office) from our servers instead of each users desktop computer. I would say about 75% of big business use Citrix for something. Anyway since we have had it running there has been one little feature that has really got on my nerves and for me was a deal breaker for running it on my desktop at work!

In Windows XP there is a feature called clear type fonts. This basically smoothes the font edges that you see on the screen for a much cleaner look. This feature was made very prominent in Microsoft Office 2007. For those of you who know me I am a total Outlook 2007 junkie! I have been running it since the beta came out a few years back. It is by far my favorite application that Microsoft has made. Anyway when we deployed Office 2007 to the MBC staff last year we required that all of them access Office 2007 through Citrix. This was fine and well but we found out the clear type font issue was disabled in Citrix! I was so ticked and to the dismay of the rest of our IT Team I would not use Citrix!

Well I am proud to say that as of Saturday I have fixed the clear type font issue! Citrix and Microsoft came out with a hotfix that corrected the problem! I was so excited. Because of this I can now use Outlook 2007 on my MacBook with no issues at all and it looks great!

Like the title says it is the little things in life that makes us happy. I know I am strange…

  1. Nice blog, Marvin! So, is Office licensing for users cheaper via Citrix or do you still have to buy a full Office license for each machine accessing Office products? I am always looking for a way to save a few bucks!
